3:59 PM - The day was disappointing, but the week made significant gains! Thanks to crude oil prices cooling off a bit and the UPA government winning the vote of confidence, the market surged on hopes of reforms as well as the nuclear deal coming through. The Sensex gained 4.7% and the Nifty, about 5.5% over the week. CNX Midcap index too added a good 8% and the BSE Smallcap index, 5%. Sector-wise too, there were gains; BSE Bankex was up 9.1%, BSE Metal index, up 7%, BSE Realty index, up 7.7%, BSE Oil & Gas index, up 2.3% and BSE Capital Goods index, up 5.3%. Next week, the market will be keeping a watch on the Credit Policy announcement and the F&O expiry.

3:53 PM - It was a gloomy day for the market, as weak global cues and it being the last day of the week encouraged profit booking. The market traded in the negative terrain all day and ended close to the day's lows. Sensex closed at 14274, down 502 points from the previous close. Nifty shut shop at 4311, down 121 points. CNX Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices lost 0.3% each. Defensives like FMCG and healthcare gained, while banking, realty (ahead of the Credit Policy announcement next week), oil & gas and capital goods stocks saw heavy selling pressure. Biggest losers on the Sensex include ICICI Bank, HDFC, HDFC Bank, JP Associates, ONGC, while gainers were Ranbaxy, ACC, HUL and Grasim, among others.

3:43 PM - Chennai Petro can be an excellent buy at its support levels of Rs 270-275, says E Mathew, technical analyst, on CNBC-TV18. The stock is at Rs 298.40, up 0.9% on the BSE.
